Do you live in one of our communities and want to make a difference when it matters most? Becoming a community emergency medical responder (EMR) might be exactly what you're looking for.
Community responders serve on an on-call, part-time basis. While on call you carry a radio and stay available; the rest of your life carries on as usual. When a call comes in, you respond alongside your hub's team.
Why become a community responder?
- Serve your neighbours and contribute to your community's wellbeing.
- Build real emergency skills and confidence, with free training that fits around your schedule.
- Receive an EMS uniform and join a team of dedicated professionals.
- Set your own availability — work when and as often as you want.
- Be compensated for your time: $7.70 for every on-call hour and up to $30.74 per hour on duty or in training, plus a recruitment bonus.
- Access employee mental-health supports, including the Employee and Family Assistance Plan.
Don't have every credential yet? Don't worry — we'll work with you to get you up to speed.
How to apply
- Fill in the online application below — we complete the official application form for you and send it to your chosen hub's co-superintendents. (Prefer paper? Download the form at that link and submit it yourself.)
- Questions along the way? Reach out to your local hub's co-superintendents (see our community hubs), or contact the deputy chief of EMS Community Operations at 867-456-6505 or hss-ems-responderrecruitment@yukon.ca.
